This mystery comes from the short story collection: Poirot's Early Cases, and features the famous detective as he recounts one of his only failures. The case takes place while he was still working for the Belgian Police Force, and focuses on the struggle between Church and State. Can you solve the murder?

Episode 35: The Word is Murder

This week I am joined by podcaster Caroline Crampton (SheDunnit) to try to solve The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz.

 

This book follows the actual author, Anthony Horowitz as he follows around an eccentric ex-detective inspector to try to solve a murder investigation. Ex-inspector Hawthorne gets called into particularly tough cases because even though nobody on the force can stand working with him, he does get results. Will he be able to solve this case? In this episode, Dr Rosen has helped to take down a secret German organization after the war. He knows he is a marked man, and the police are trying to protect him. However, they are up against a difficult challenge.

Episode 33: The Moonstone

Welcome back to the Tuesday Night Mystery Club and the first official episode of the new year! This week we are doing something a little different... I am trying to solve the mystery!

Join myself (Kaitlyn McCluskie) and Gabrielle Klemt as SHE tells ME the story of The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. This story follows different generations of the Herncastle family as they pocess and inherit the Moonstone diamond. This precious gem was stolen from India during the war and has great religious significance. It is strongly missed...

This story is also one of the first detective novels and established a lot of the rules and tropes for the genre. So cool!

Kaityn tells the story that follows police Sergeant Adam Dalgliesh as he attempts to go to his aunts house for Christmas Eve dinner. On his way, he is flagged down by a man on the side of the road trying to get to a phone box. The man tells him that his uncle has just committed suicide and he is trying to inform the police...
